Recent downsizers who are facing their first winter in their new apartment or bungalow may get a shock this month when it comes to switching on the heating.
It’s common for retirement complexes and sheltered accommodation blocks to have electric heating. But unless you’ve got the right kind of system, you may find it hits your pocket hard.
A lot of retirement properties still have night storage heaters. Residents often save money on things like buildings insurance and find that they can enjoy the garden and lovely clean windows without the hassle of maintaining them themselves. But when it comes to heating, they’re usually still in charge and still have to pick up the bill.
Heating specialist Howard Klineberg says:
“Night storage heaters aren’t just ugly, they’re inefficient and expensive to run. I don’t envy anyone who goes through all the difficulty and adjustment of downsizing only to face their first winter cold, miserable and out of pocket because they didn’t realise how bad their heating system was going to be.”
Howard is managing director of North East Heating Solutions which specialises in energy efficient electrical heating. He continues:
“People who are downsizing need to know that there is a simple solution to night storage heaters. The right kind of contemporary electric heaters, properly installed, can save you a lot of money compared to clunky old storage heaters. In some cases running costs can even be comparable to gas central heating and they only take one mess-free day to install.”
Howard recommends and installs German electric heating systems by Elkotherm. Click here for your free information pack.
