We’re pleased to announce that we are now an Age and Dementia Friendly organisation.
Working with Age Friendly and Dementia Friendly Leeds, we are committed to making our services more accessible to this vulnerable group who need it the most.
As part of this commitment, we will make our communications available in large font and provide age friendly heating controls and instruction videos. We have also committed to working closely with family and friends of people with dementia.
As a vital service to this group, we think it’s important that we make electric heating and hot water services as accessible as possible.
North East Heating Solutions owner, Howard Klineberg, said: “This is an important cause for us as many elderly people are not living in adequately heated homes.
On average, 35,000 excess winter deaths occur among people over 65 from cold related illnesses. We want to ensure this vulnerable group has access to appropriate heating for their homes. Committing to be Age and Dementia Friendly will help make our services more accessible so no one goes without a warm home.”
Time to Shine Communities Officer, Sarah Prescott, said: “We want to help make Leeds a friendlier place for older people and people living with dementia. Every business can play their part by committing to be Age and Dementia Friendly, and dozens have already done so! It’s also a great way to increase your customer base and customer loyalty. We can support you to get there.”
The Friendly Communities project is part of the Time to Shine programme, which aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness among older people in Leeds. Time to Shine is managed by Leeds Older People’s Forum and funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.
